France has long been a land of revolutions — from 1789’s storming of the Bastille to the student and worker uprisings of May 1968. Under the Fifth Republic, established in 1958, governments have been relatively stable. But that stability has now been shaken, having faced yet another political upheaval.
Japan, often seen as a model of political stability, has entered a period of uncertainty. Less than a year after taking office, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced his resignation following significant election setbacks that weakened his government’s mandate.
On June 13, 2025, Israel launched pre-emptive strikes on Iran. Israel decided upon this action due to how close Iran seemed to be to a nuclear weapon. Iran launched a swift retaliation, sending hundreds of missiles into cities in Israel. This comes after years of attacks between Israel and Iran’s proxies in other nations in the Middle East.
On December 8th, 2024, Syrian rebels led by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani took over the city of Damascus, ending the Assad Regime in the nation and a 13 year civil war. This comes soon after the surprise takeover of Aleppo on November 30th, 2024. The rebels swiftly took city after city; after Damascus fell, Bashar Al-Assad, the previous ruler, fled to some country.
